a taste of Ohana
A few days ago, my cousin upik & I decided to drive about 30something miles to try on this Hawaiian BBQ foods that was recommended by a blogsite I frequently read. After about half hour driving, we finally arrived and shocked *hehe* ternyata tempatnya gak seperti yg kita bayangin. It's a fast-food restaurant, so it's not like some fancy hawaiian place ^^
They have a very nicely designed menu, so I took one hehe :) from the decorations inside, you can tell that the owner paid a lot of attention on the design. Even though it's a fast-food type restaurant, the tables and chairs were very nice, the walls were painted bright, tropical colors, and of course, all the employees were wearing aloha shirts. Soothing Hawaiian music played overhead while we enjoyed our food. According to the menu, the recipes for the dishes originated from a tiny luncheon called Kamuela Deli in Waimea on the Big Island.
Here is the pics!
proceed with caution... hihi
This is what I ordered, the hawaiian BBQ chicken. Very delicious! and not too expensive either. It tastes just like the picture. It's juicy and tender, you could actually love this BBQ sauce marinated chicken! Cooked to perfection, it was placed on a bed of cabbage and came with a scoop of macaroni salad and two scoops of rice.
My cousin, upik likes deep fried foods so she ordered this chicken katsu (fried chicken cutlet) plate. Golden and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, plus a side of their special katsu sauce. It doesn't look greasy at all, and oh-so-good!
Their Spam Musubi looks really good. Some people might think spam is gross dan fatty, but wait till you taste this Spam Musubi! perhaps you'll change your mind later ;)
We ordered 1pc of this Spam Musubi just to try it, and it is good ;) we ate there and suddenly realize that people started to come one by one. They only have about 7-8 tables and we were sitting close to the door. Everyone looked very pleased with their foods also ;)
We didn't order anything else, but their BBQ Mix Plate also looks so good we might try it later on our next stop. After eating half of my BBQ chicken, I notice the BBQ Mix Plate (pictured above), which has beef, ribs and chicken could be my order but I don't really like beef.
Aside from their specialty, which is BBQ meats, they also have more standard things like burgers and salads, plus Hawaiian fare like Saimin (noodle soup), Kalua Pork (Smokey-flavored, slowly roasted pork) with cabbage, and of course, Loco Moco, which is hamburger patties smothered with gravy and topped with a fried egg(!).
If any of you ever go to LA, you might want to stop by and try some! ;)
